The second mental health app I’ve chosen to review is Calm, a leading app for sleep, meditation, and relaxation including mindfulness and guided meditation resources (Huberty et al., 2019). This app is extremely user-friendly and applicable for kids, teens, adults, and businesses. You can download the app for free and enjoy a fee-free trial period. A paid, yearly subscription provides access to their entire library of resources including exclusive music for focus and relaxation; video lessons on movement and stretching; expert-taught audio programs; and nature sounds to enjoy while sleeping, working, or studying. Calm also has a partnership with NBA basketball star, LeBron James, to teach a program on mental fitness (i.e. how to train your brain and body to perform together). Additional features include mindful living calendars, daily gratitude journal templates, a mental fitness training guide, intention cards and guidebooks, a gratitude toolkit, happiness journal templates, mindful eating journal templates, and sleep journal templates. Whether you are experiencing acute distress or seeking healthy lifestyle changes, Calm provides an array of empirically-supported resources.
This is not an ad and I do not explicitly endorse any of the apps or websites discussed. I do not recommend using MH apps without ongoing, or prior, consultation with a licensed psychologist or mental health provider.
All my best,
NLF
